COLLECTION DAY: Holyport College

On Wednesday next week 19/09/18 a team from Oxford University will be visiting the college who are leading an important historical research project. It is nationwide initiative called ‘Lest We Forget’, and the aim is to record stories and memories from WW1 which survive - not in museum collections or history books - but in the hearts and homes of the very many families and individuals affected, before they are lost to history.  The team supported by Holyport's own sixth form students will document (by photography and digital scanning) the artefacts kept in people's homes. This is not just the story of the people involved at the time, but of how their experiences and the war itself, affected the rest of the family. If you have family members or friends who fought in WW1, or who have stories, letters, pictures or artefacts related to the war, we would love to see them come to the College reception at any time between 2pm-5pm next wednesday to add their memories to the archive. This event is open to members of the public.

As part of the Centenary commemoration of the end of World War One, this vast archive will go live online across Europe in November 2018, and will be publically available. This important social history project is supported by the Commonwealth War Graves and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
