Francis Wight Simpson Bruce, 1892-1976
Bruce was called up at the beginning of the war and enlisted as a Private in the Army Medical Corps. He served throughout the Battle of the Somme, often as a stretcher bearer. Bruce would not talk about his wartime experiences, as they were too disturbing. He was discharged in 1917 due to severe influenza. There is some evidence of him being promoted to an "acting" role during the conflict, but this is not confirmed.
He is remembered by A. Bruce.
