Arthur Francis Carter, 1893-1977

Carter enlisted on 13 September 1914, at the age of 21. He fought on the Western Front through 1915, before being moved first to Egypt and then to Greece, on the Salonika Front. In 1916, he contracted malaria and suffered from severe ill health for much of the remainder of war. He was demobilized in 1919, but immediately reenlisted and served as an occupying force in Constantinople when the war ended.

D. Carter dedicates this plaque to him:

He was the husband of Elsie (1892 – 1988), father of Gordon (b. 1925) and grandfather of David (b.1980). He was the lifelong friend of Frank Ford Feltham (who he met when serving as an occupying force in Constantinople).
